Three women make the cut at tryouts for Women's Professional Soccer

      After two days of tryouts, 26 players sat silently in a semicircle, waiting to hear if they had made the cut. On Feb. 25, 51 players had entered the practice field at GoodSports USA at Allaire in Wall Township, hoping to play for the Sky Blue FC Soccer team, a part of the inaugural season of Women's Professional Soccer.

Mantz steps down as S.B. football coach

      In his two-year tenure as coach of the South Brunswick High School football team, Rick Mantz made history. Coming to the Vikings from Hillsborough in 2007, Mantz worked magic on a program that had spent years — actually, decades — in the doldrums. He brought SBHS to a 5-5 record that first campaign, including the team's first playoff appearance in 30 years.
