Fake wrestling fight leads to real charges

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A publicity stunt meant to draw attention to an upcoming wrestling match in Perth Amboy has led to two men being charged with disorderly conduct in South Brunswick.

Just after midnight on Aug. 21, cops responded to 911 calls about a fight at One South American Grill, 4095 Route 1.

The two men involved, John Rechner, 38, of Spring Lake Heights, and John Kissel, 45, of South Brunswick, were driving together shortly before the fight began.

According to reports, Rechner, whose wrestling name is Balls Mahoney, brandished a knife at Kissel, known as the Outpatient. After the staged fight ended, Rechner fled the scene.

Officers apprehended Rechner a short time later on Route 1 north near New Road. After being charged with disorderly conduct, both men were released.
