Natural health center helps heal the environment, too
The Natural Health Center of Central New Jersey uses Viridian Energy
NORTH BRUNSWICK — The Natural Health Center of Central New Jersey is trying to keep true to its name, employing energy saving measures for a more efficient, natural operation. Colleen Murray-Seig and Rosina Valvo use recycled sticky notes, paper and toilet paper; have pencils made out of denim; reuse water from ear candling procedures to water plants; re-photocopy on the backs of one-sided documents; and keep their utilities off and unplugged in their Davidson Mill Village center when not in use. The women also began an independent association with Viridian Energy toward the end of the summer, deciding to use its “Green-e” energy program to help save the environment. “We thought it’d be a really good fit because we are a health center and promote helping the environment,” Valvo said, noting that some recent research points to environmental causes for autism. “It just made sense for us to bring this in and do 100 percent because we want to see the air get cleaner for the future of our children and for everyone.” Viridian supplies the energy, while a local utility company such as JCP&L or PSE&G delivers it through their normal poles and wires. There is an opportunity for residents to potentially save money on monthly utility bills while saving trees, reducing the carbon footprint and utilizing locally produced wind power. “Our 20 percent [Everyday Green] renewable energy is three times what [New Jersey] requires,” said Chief Operating Officer Robert Ulrich. “You as a consumer have a choice of where you want your energy to come from. … The more we can provide more green energy to the grid, the better.” “When we use renewable resources, we feel so good about our product … because we rely less on oil, fossil fuels and coal, and rely more on renewable resources like wind and solar,” said James Westura, who gave a PowerPoint presentation for Viridian. “We have a really great impact on the local economy.” Westura gives a presentation the first Wednesday of every month. The center is located at 2430 Route 130 north. For more information, call 732-821- 5800 or email info@nathealthctr.com. Contact Jennifer Amato at jamato@gmnews.com. |
