Alternative gift market to be held Nov. 18
The Community Presbyterian Church will hold its annual alternative gift market on Nov. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 57 Sand Hills Road, Kendall Park.
Handcrafts from artisans in Africa, Asia and Latin America will be available by SERRV, a nonprofit fair-trade organization. Heifer International will also be featured, allowing shoppers to purchase shares of livestock to help impoverished people become more self-reliant.
Through their purchases, shoppers can provide food to the hungry and homeless in the U.S. and Canada, rescue girls from forced prostitution in India/Southeast Asia, promote education in Nicaragua, supply medicine to remote villages in Burma/Myanmar, protect rainforests for indigenous people in Brazil, build homes for Haitian families, support training to equip women in the U.S. to become self-sufficient, and provide mosquito nets for children in Kenya.
