Ashley Higginson has been selected as the 2012 U.S.A. Track and Field New Jersey Open Track & Field Athlete of the Year. The former Colts Neck High School great, who now runs professionally for Saucony with the New Jersey/New York Running Club, finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials. She competed in Europe after the Trials and lowered her steeplechase personal record to 9:34.49 at the Aviva London Grand Prix, finishing sixth in the world-class field. She set a series of personal bests throughout her outstanding 2012 season.
Higginson, who went on from high school to win Ivy League titles and All-American honors at Princeton University, will receive her award on Jan. 19 at the Pines Manor in Edison.
